Me and My Tightwad

Today was a busy day!

I painted several plate orders.

I went to the grocery, spending only $8.46 on over $125 worth of groceries. I will not bore you with details or photos....

I endured watching Tiger Woods' apology. Then I endured an interview with his porn star bimbo and her lawyer demanding he apologize to her in person for being 'dishonest' with her. Is it just me, or should she have known he was dishonest?? He was cheating on his wife...

Lilly had a friend over.

I helped to remove another bird that somehow found it's way inside my house. We had no idea it was in here, until it emerged to send my daughter running, and screaming in terror. Upon sitting down to write this post, I noticed a little present it left me.

On my printer.

I helped my husband install a new, much needed, kitchen faucet.

We have been working really hard to finish our bathroom remodel. (We have spent waaay too much time at Lowes and Home Depot). So, today I put a coat of primer on the walls, and the finish on the new top for the vanity. This is a before..

At first we were just going to update it, but we ended up taking it out to the studs. And, we have done the entire thing ourselves. Not one worker has stepped foot into this house.

Why?

My husband is a very handy guy - but he is also a serious tightwad.
He changes the oil in our cars himself (and the occasional alternator or brakes).
He always mows our lawn himself.
He washes our cars himself.
He washes and presses his dress shirts himself ---no wait, that's me.
I have even seen him patch our very steep roof.....with a rope tied around his waist, and my dad holding the other end.
He refuses to have a car payment.
I guess I should call him "thrifty". (but, every time the back passenger door lock sticks in my paid for, practical, very non luxury SUV, I can think of lots of things to call him, and "thrifty" isn't one of them.....)

The crazy thing is, he really does a good job on all these things he takes on. (I assume he patched the roof well - I'm not going up there to check it.)
He has done a fabulous job on the bathroom, while sticking to our budget, and I cannot wait to post 'after' pictures.

I got a freebie in the mail today. Go here to get super cheap labels, business cards, etc. Occasionally, they have stuff for free, you only have to pay shipping. I got 150 of these labels.

I think I've done enough - time for a good book.

Triplets and the subject of *arting

Where did this week go? How did I go a week without posting anything? I think all the Sponge Bob in the background has killed too many brain cells. Did I mention how much I hate Sponge Bob?? My friend Michelle says that she just kept telling herself he wasn't totally useless - he has a good work ethic. I guess there is always a silver lining. Even in noisy, irritating, obnoxious cartoons. And, besides, it is Wednesday -- which brings a new episode of Friday Night Lights.

Look at the adorable picture a customer sent me!! Her triplet boys in coordinating onesies. How sweet was she to get them all dressed, posed, get it developed, and actually send it to me. I am impressed. They make my onesies look even cuter.

I wanted to share a favorite book with everyone. It is probably not what you expect.

"Walter, the Farting Dog"

I grew up with only one sister, a military father, and a very well mannered, southern mother. I don't remember ever mentioning or hearing the lesser 'F' word in our house. My mom would have been mortified.

Fast forward to 2010 - my mom has 4 grandsons - she hears it all the time.

You can tell your boys it's not polite.
You can tell them it's not funny, that everyone does it.
You can tell them potty talk is absolutely prohibited.

It doesn't matter. They will laugh about it. They will talk about it. They will try really, really hard to do it in front of each other. Boys and flattulence go hand in hand.

This book handles it in a funny way, that isn't too gross. (even for someone that can barely stand to type the word)

My boys thought I was super cool and funny when this book came into their lives. They laugh every time I read it. Try it sometime.

My 5 year old has a new favorite book, he insists on looking at it every night.
"Zondervan's Guide to the Bible"
And, he wants me to read it. It is political history, etc. of Biblical times. He loves the maps, pictures of old scrolls, and artifacts. I hate to admit it, but I am bored silly when we read it - but he listens very carefully.

I knew he was a little different....

No before, just an after

This is supposed to be a before and after - but I can't find the before picture - you'll just have to use your imagination. This light fixture came to me off the shelf brown/bronze. The designer that brought it to me wanted it to have a french country look. She also said to keep it kind of fun, a little bit whimsical. I painted it a creamy ivory, and after some handpainting, I added a glaze. I distressed it in some random spots to show the detail. I was hoping that it was what she envisioned, sometimes it is just a guessing game.
On the way to my house yesterday, she had a minor car accident. She picked it up this morning and was very pleased with it. I love happy endings.
My other project yesterday was "family" plates. Lots of them. More than you see. One thing about these plates, no matter how big you are, you always look good as a stick person. If you are bald, well, that's another story.
